The centre is also designed for school children, sports clubs and recreational athletes. NIS has recognised the importance of this project and supported it within the framework of its Together for the Community programme, aiming at developing amateur and professional sports, as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle and investing in the young. The official opening of the centre was attended, among others, by Čedomir Janjić, Mayor of Zrenjanin, Valery Proskurin, Deputy CEO and Director of the Services Block at NIS, and representatives of the Volleyball Club Klek. The mayor of Zrenjanin, Čedomir Janjić, used this opportunity to thank NIS for supporting this project of great importance to sports and volleyball for Klek and the City of Zrenjanin. “I do not think I should tell you what volleyball means for Klek and Serbia. It is something we are all proud of. It is great that there are many people here in Klek who play volleyball and other sports well, but I also have to thank socially responsible companies which support all that. Naftna Industrija Srbije and the people in charge of this activity have recognised to the importance of finishing this training centre and I thank them for that. Several important projects are funded by NIS every year. This may be a bit different from other companies funding sports clubs in Serbia. We are talking about specific projects here,” Janjić underlined. Through the reconstruction of this centre, which NIS supported with RSD 3 million, the city of Zrenjanin has gained a modern sports hall where professional athletes will be able to train to a high standard and develop their talent. Valery Proskurin, Deputy CEO and Director of the Services Block at NIS stated, “I am convinced that the modern space will make it possible for professional and recreational athletes and pupils to develop and build on their talent and achieve great sports success. NIS has been cooperating with the City of Zrenjanin for nine years as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, Together for the Community, and so far we have supported 139 projects which have improved the living conditions of the population of Zrenjanin and its surroundings. By investing in professional and recreational sports, NIS invests and will continue to invest in the future generations of talented young individuals, who are the future of our country.” Rajko Petrović, Sporting Director of Klek Volleyball Club, expressed his great satisfaction with the importance of the project, saying “The implementation of this project will make it possible for us to make our volleyball players better. From now on, pre-school and school children will also be able to use this sports hall, as will our citizens, for fitness. I believe that around 80 per cent of Klek residents will be able to use the premises.” Under its corporate slogan ‘Future at Work’, NIS cooperates with 11 local self-governments in Serbia in an effort to improve the quality of life of the population of those communities. In 2017, NIS supported four sports-related projects, namely, the football club Radnički Zrenjanin, basketball club Proleter-Naftagas, volleyball club Klek Srbijašume and sports club Naftagas, Elemir. For its contribution to developing the sports infrastructure in Zrenjanin, NIS received the 2017 Sponsor-Donor Award from the Sports Association of Zrenjanin earlier this year.
