Security of domestic market supply

7.05.2026.

In April, the Pančevo Oil Refinery significantly increased its refining volume of crude oil and semi-finished products, through which NIS contributes to the energy stability of the Republic of Serbia and a steady market supply. In the previous month, the total of 336 thousand tons of crude oil were processed at the refinery, representing 11.3 percent increase compared to March of this year. Consequently, larger quantities of the highest-value fuels (gasoline and diesel) were produced, while the production of JET A-1 aviation fuel increased by 71.7 percent when compared to March results.

Driven by continuous modernisation, state-of-the-art refining capacities, and the flexibility to swiftly and effectively adapt to shifts in the refining crude basket, the Oil Refinery in Pančevo stands as one of the most modern facilities in the region. Since 2009, investments in the refinery have exceeded EUR 1.4 billion, unlocking the production of top-quality fuels while, at the same time, meeting stringent domestic and European environmental standards. Notably, this year marks the sixth anniversary of the Bottom of the Barrel unit with delayed coking technology, which boosted the output of high-value derivatives and launched domestic petroleum coke production,

“The continuous operation of the Oil Refinery in Pančevo is vital for the energy stability of the Republic of Serbia and the steady supply of the domestic market. Therefore, our priorities remain the uninterrupted continuation of production and the further development of refining units, alongside the implementation of projects focused on increasing energy efficiency and digitalization. Furthermore, I would like to thank all the refinery employees, who together with supporting services number around 1,700, for their efforts in these complex business conditions,” said Vladimir Gagić, Director of Refining Block at NIS.

In addition to being one of the most modern, the Pančevo Refinery ranks today also among the most environmentally advanced refineries in this part of Europe. Since 2009, EUR 95 million have been invested in environmental protection. Furthermore, the Pančevo Refinery is the first energy facility in the Republic of Serbia to obtain an IPPC permit from the competent state authorities, confirming that its production processes comply with the highest domestic and European environmental standards.
