At the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which was held from July 11 to 22 in Bath, Great Britain, all six competitors of the Serbian Olympic team won significant awards.
The students of the Mathematics High School in Belgrade, Stefan Šebez, Gvozden Lapčević, Mihailo Jancevic and Novak Despotović, won silver medals, while the bronze medal went to Strahinja Svrzić, a student of the “Svetozar Marković” high school from Niš. Stevan Radivojević, a student of the Mathematics High School in Belgrade, was awarded with a commendation.
609 competitors from 109 countries from all over the world took part in the official competition at this, the most important competition for high school students. The leaders of the IMO team of the Republic of Serbia were Dr. Miljan Knežević, University of Belgrade, Faculty of Mathematics and Teodor von Burg, Mathematics High School, Belgrade.
The Olympic team of the Republic of Serbia was selected after several stages of mathematical competitions, which are organized by the Association of Mathematicians of Serbia and the Ministry of Education. The NIS company provided significant support to the Serbian Olympic team.
With the aim of popularizing the natural sciences, as well as the affirmation of our young and talented mathematicians, NIS, within its “Energy of Knowledge” program, has been cooperating with the Association of Mathematicians of Serbia since 2013, through support in the implementation of mathematics competitions, both at national and international levels.
