Within the program, we support long-term cooperation with scientific and educational institutions, assist in developing infrastructure and improving conditions for teaching and scientific work in schools and universities, promote the development of natural sciences and the popularization of the Russian language, and provide scholarships to top Serbian students based on the company’s staffing needs.
To date, NIS has helped equip over 70 classrooms and laboratories in Serbian schools and universities. More than 140 students have received an education in Serbia and the Russian Federation thanks to our scholarships. With our support, talented students have won more than 100 awards at international knowledge competitions in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.
The vision implemented through the Energy of Knowledge program is to improve curricula, create modern learning conditions, and adapt the educational process to the labor market’s needs.
In 2016, thanks to investments in educational institutions across the country, NIS became the first company whose contribution to the development of education was recognized with a prestigious national award—the Order of Saint Sava, awarded by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technological Development of Serbia.
We cooperate with more than 30 faculties across various universities in the country. Collaboration with higher education institutions is aligned with the company’s interests and includes the accreditation of existing and new university programs based on company needs, organization of guest lectures by university professors and NIS experts, site visits and internships for scholarship holders and students of partner faculties, equipping classrooms and laboratories, and the implementation of joint projects.
The company participated in accrediting existing and new study programs for the Faculty of Mining and Geology of the University of Belgrade (Bachelor’s program in Petroleum Engineering and Master’s program in Petroleum Geology) and the Technical Faculty of the University of Novi Sad (Industrial Engineering in Petroleum Production). The company has also supported the Petrochemical Engineering program at the Faculty of Technology in Novi Sad for many years. At both universities, NIS helped equip modern classrooms and laboratories.
In addition to supporting education in fields of interest to the company, NIS annually organizes guest lectures by its experts for students in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš, and invites university professors to deliver lectures and training courses for company employees. This form of cooperation between business and academia is common worldwide and brings numerous benefits to both. Thanks to guest lectures by NIS specialists, students gain insight into the company’s operations and structure, business environment, and expectations for young professionals. Company experts share practical knowledge with students, while the company identifies promising individuals, and students learn about the realities and challenges of the industry. These lectures complement the core curriculum.
Internships within the Energy of Knowledge program are intended for the company’s scholarship holders and students from partner universities. Additionally, at the request of the faculties, we organize educational visits to NIS facilities for students in disciplines relevant to the company.
The company maintains extensive cooperation with numerous primary and secondary schools across Serbia. In line with the need for skilled workers in the oil sector, NIS initiated and supported the reaccreditation of the Oil and Gas Facility Operator program at the Technical School in Zrenjanin and the accreditation of three new vocational profiles at secondary schools in Pančevo: the 23rd May Technical School, the Pančevo Mechanical Engineering School, and the Nikola Tesla Electrical Engineering School.
The company also helps schools and vocational institutions renovate and equip classrooms with computers and laboratory equipment.
To promote natural sciences, we support knowledge competitions in mathematics, physics, and chemistry at national, regional, and international levels, held in cooperation with Serbia’s Mathematics Society, Serbia’s Physics Society, and Serbia’s Chemistry Society.
NIS has helped organize or send Serbian participants to over 50 knowledge competitions in Serbia and abroad.
We place special emphasis on initiatives and projects that support and promote the Russian language in Serbia.
Since 2013, NIS has supported the organization of the Russian language competition in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Serbian Slavic Studies Society. During the event, high school and university students from Serbia, Montenegro, and Republika Srpska compete in Russian language proficiency. The goal is to popularize the Russian language and increase the number of students learning Russian in Serbia and the region. Since 2014, the event has been on the official competition calendar of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia.
Since 2014, we have sponsored bilingual teaching in Serbian and in Russian at three educational institutions: the Jovan Popović Primary School and the J. J. Zmaj Grammar School in Novi Sad, and the Grammar School in Aleksinac.
NIS has helped renovate and equip Russian language classrooms in 26 schools whose students achieved outstanding results at the NIS Russian language competition.
An important partner is the Philological Faculty of the University of Belgrade, which helped NIS organize Serbian language classes for teachers and students of the Russian School at the Russian Embassy. Other key partners include faculties where Russian is studied, such as the Faculties of Philosophy in Novi Sad, Niš, and Kosovska Mitrovica. We also actively cooperate with the Russian House in Belgrade.
In 2021, with the company’s support, the Russian Geographical Society’s Center in Serbia published the Russian language textbook “Ni puha ni pera”. Its development involved professors from the Philological Faculties of the Universities of Belgrade and Novi Sad, grammar schools, and the Academy of Arts at the University of Novi Sad. The textbook features a modern design and a modern approach to language learning. It is intended for adults and university students learning Russian both independently and with a teacher. The textbook and the accompanying audio exercises are available for free download on our website.
As part of the student scholarship program, the company invests in the education of the best Serbian students in Serbia and the Russian Federation, in line with its staffing needs.
Scholarships are awarded annually to third- and fourth-year undergraduates and master’s students.
Our scholarship holders study at universities in Belgrade and Novi Sad, as well as at seven prestigious universities in Russia. During the scholarship period, students complete summer internships after each academic year. The NIS scholarship for studying abroad also covers accommodation, air travel, and health insurance.
The company has awarded scholarships to over 140 students, more than 70 of whom have joined NIS after graduation.
