Additional Modernisation of NIS refining capacities in Pančevo Successfully Completed

October 20, 2014

All activities during the additional modernisation at the Pančevo Oil Refinery fully complied with domestic and European ecological regulations. The total value of current maintenance and investments during the overhaul amounted to nearly RSD 1.9 billion. The total value of current maintenance and investments during the overhaul amounted to nearly RSD 1.9 billion The implementation of a series of last month's investment projects resulted in a stable and higher production of diesel, jet fuel and top-quality Euro 5 petrol at the Pančevo Oil Refinery. It is in this manner that the Company is prepared to respond to increased market demands for quality petroleum products in the region and the European Union. In addition, capacity modernisation continued during the planned refinery overhaul by scope of works, meaning that more than 70 projects were completed in the past month - 33 were investment maintenance projects, while the others were new investments. They include the continuation of production process automation in a series of primary and secondary refining facilities, as well as the installation of state-of-the-art systems for furnace combustion optimisation, which will ensure planned energy savings on modernised furnaces. Apart from ecological benefits, the closed drainage system and closed sampling system projects will ensure a higher production of white petroleum products and loss reduction. As part of this additional September modernisation, nine investments were made in the area of power supply so as to replace equipment in transformer substations by more modern one, which will result in a safer and more reliable operation of the refinery. Furthermore, boilers in the energy power plant were reconstructed and the refinery equipment was subject to a series of interventions, such as controlling the proper functionality of more than 10,000 measuring instruments and 600 safety valves, as well as cleaning more than 150 heat exchangers for various fluids, these being the key part in the refining process. In early September, the third stage of the loading terminal modernisation was completed, thus ensuring state-of-the-art loading of petroleum products. All activities during the additional modernisation at the Pančevo Oil Refinery fully complied with domestic and European ecological regulations “It is the Company's permanent task to improve the structure of refining products in compliance with the buyers' market demands, which is what we did in the course of the planned September overhaul by increasing the production of the highest-quality petroleum products. In order to improve the efficiency of production processes, we accomplished simultaneous controlling, replacement of refinery equipment and additional modernisation in strict compliance with environmental protection, process safety and occupational health and safety regulations,” said Siniša Stokuća, Overhaul Manager at the POR.
