The total capacity of the plant is 2.41 МW, and the investment is worth 2.6 million euros The total investment of NIS in the construction of small power plants in Serbia has thus reached 15 million euros and their capacity is 14.5 МW, which is sufficient to supply as many as 20,000 households with electricity. Apart from electric power, heat power of 4 MW in total is produced in oil and gas fields and used for NIS' facilities. In line with its reputation as one of major energy companies in South East Europe, NIS, i.e. its Energy Block, has been implementing the programme of efficient use of gas resources since 2013. The programme is focused on construction of mini power plants, i.e. cogeneration modules, in oil and gas fields across Serbia. They operate by converting gas into electric and heat power, which is an energy-efficient and ecological method of production. The electricity produced in mini power plants is supplied to the electrical grid. Apart from Serbia, NIS has been trading in electricity in the markets of Romania, Hungary, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro since 2016, while getting into the markets of all EU member states in the region is a strategic objective of the company. The total investment of NIS in the construction of small power plants in Serbia has thus reached 15 million euros and their capacity is 14.5 МW, which is sufficient to supply as many as 20,000 households with electricity “Power generation in mini power plants is one of the projects that make us at NIS particularly proud. The gas which was not used in the past and was flared due to the carbon dioxide and nitrogen content of over 50% is now used to generate electric and heat power, which is how we improve our company's efficiency. By extension, the emission of harmful gases to the atmosphere has been considerably reduced for the same reason, which stands out as a significant ecological component of this business segment,” stated Alexey Belov, Director of the Energy Block at NIS.
