The ceremonial launch was attended by the representatives of the local self-government, the management of Brekovo Primary School, NIS, the school administration, Parents Council, as well as current and former pupils. The classroom was entirely adapted and renovated, fully equipped with multimedia devices and Internet access. As a result, the classroom can be used by all pupils and it is adequate for teaching foreign languages as well as other classes, which require the use of multimedia devices. The pupils of Brekovo Primary School regularly participate in Russian language competitions organised by NIS and achieve remarkable results, as all the pupils of the school attend Russian language classes. Due to the support provided by NIS, which has been using the programme “Energy of Knowledge” for seven years to support popularisation of science and improvement of teaching conditions in educational institutions in Serbia, Russian language classes, as well as the other classes, in Brekovo Primary School have been improved and facilitated. Milos Nedeljkovic, mayor of municipality of Arilje, pointed out that Brekovo Primary School is proud of its rich tradition and numerous respected and acknowledged scientists and artists, their former pupils, while the Chairperson to the Municipal Assembly of Arilje, Dragisa Terzic, expressed his gratitude to NIS for its donation to Brekovo Primary School: “This year is considered the year of education in Municipality of Arilje. The municipality invested in the technological park reconstruction. As a result, we will be able to open new IT departments and develop new educational profiles. This way, our pupils will be able to receive education in Arilje. We consider this donation a great honour”, said Terzic. Goran Icelic, principal of Brekovo Primary School, expressed his gratitude to NIS for their donation and noted that the school management makes efforts to improve education as much as possible, which is significantly enabled due to successful cooperation with local government and townsmen. The teachers and pupils of this school prepared different artistic performances for the opening ceremony of the digital classroom for Russian language, and principal Icelic handed out certificates of appreciation to the guests. In 2019, NIS will continue to make donations to the schools all over Serbia, which pupils achieve remarkable results at Russian language and natural science competitions. The program “Energy of Knowledge” was launched in 2012. Apart from natural sciences, NIS also supports popularisation of Russian language. As a result, since 2013, six Russian language competitions were held and more than 10 classrooms for Russian language were launched at the schools, which pupils had achieved remarkable results at the competitions. In 2014, the competition organised by NIS was included in the official calendar of competitions of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. In addition, since 2014 and within the process of popularisation of Russian language and the program “Energy of Knowledge”, NIS has been supporting implementation of bilingual education at three schools in Serbia and cooperating with faculties of University of Belgrade and Novi Sad. This way, the teachers who are supposed to teach in bilingual classes at these schools study at the Faculty of Education, University of Novi Sad. In 2018, the Centre for Russian Studies was established at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Belgrade, while a classroom for Russian language studies was launched at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. Cooperation with the Faculty of Philology includes implementation of Serbian language classes at Russian International School, which was opened under the aegis of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Belgrade.
