NIS Helps Introduction of New Course of Study

The new programme is interdisciplinary and has been developed as part of the collaboration with the Uchta State Technical University in Russia, with the support of NIS.

The newly-accredited programme is the first interdisciplinary course of study in Serbia, which will allow students to become top experts in oil and gas exploitation, to develop professionally at universities in Russia, and have a more certain future in their respective professions upon completing their studies.

As part of the “Energy of Knowledge” programme, NIS will support visits by university lecturers and scientists from Uchta University, who will be teaching classes at the Mihajlo Pupin Technical Faculty as visiting scholars. In addition, the Faculty is planned to receive support funds for equipping laboratories for the purposes of teaching; students will be provided an opportunity to gain practical knowledge at the company. In the 2014/15 academic year, the total of 50 students were enrolled in the new course of study, out of whom 20 are state budget-funded, and 30 are self-funded. The opening ceremony for the new course of study was attended by NIS Deputy CEO Andrey Shibanov, the Mayor of Uchta Igor Nikolaevich Mikhel, the Mayor of Zrenjanin Čedomir Janjić, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Nenad Borovčanin, Professor Dragoslav Petrović of the Vojvodina Science and Technological Development Secretariat, Rector of the University of Novi Sad, Professor Miroslav Vesković, Dean of the Technical Faculty “Mihajlo Pupin”, Professor Milan Pavlović, and many university lecturers and students. “Even though it is business-oriented, NIS is above all a socially responsible company, whose ‘Energy of Knowledge’ programme has so far provided opportunities for very many talented and hard-working students, and created the best work conditions for schools and universities through an array of projects. The company is especially interested in supporting students focusing on natural sciences, in particular young oil and gas engineers that NIS needs,“ Andrey Shibanov pointed out in a statement. NIS corporate programme “Energy of Knowledge” includes the cooperation between the company and elementary and secondary schools as well as universities in Serbia. As part of this programme, NIS implements numerous projects which offer student funding, equipping laboratories and classrooms (general-purpose and specialized), collaboration with the Petnica Science Centre, as well as organizing and supporting numerous science-related events.
