NIS presented ecological results at the Green Days Fest

July 20, 2012

As a socially responsible company that strategically invests in the environmental protection, and also as one of the general sponsors, NIS took part at the Ecology Fair, which was held within the first eco-music festival “Green Days Fest”. NIS presented its accomplishments in the area of the Pančevo Oil Refinery Modernisation owing to which the company already produces European quality petroleum products. However, the construction of the MHC/DHT units the completion of which is expected by the end of this year will enable to reach the target quality to the full extent. Total investments into the Investment Program for ecological projects in 2011 amounted to 2.41 billion dinars which is 41% more than 2010 investments. The implementation of ecological projects resulted in the three times lower emission of powder substances in the Pančevo Oil Refinery, while the number of the ecological accidents is reduced by 24%. The activities related to exploration and utilisation of renewable energy sources continued. By 2015 the Company intends to invest around 400 million euros for the implementation of the environmental protection strategy which is 6.5 times more than the funds planned by the sales contract. In this manner, NIS confirms and promotes its ecological awareness – responsibility to provide healthier environment for the citizens of Pančevo as well as concern for health and safety of its employees. In the three year period, the Company has managed to set foundations of the refinery in line with the European standards which, in terms of ecology and production, will be a role model not only in the country but also in the region. This result is deemed by NIS as a joint venture implemented owing to high quality cooperation with both the City of Pančevo and the country of Serbia. Moreover, NIS organized painting workshop for the kids at the fair where the children presented their impressions of their city through paintings. The Ecology Fair was held in the Army Centre in order for the companies and NGOs to present their activities. The famous local bands staged on the 20th and 21st July as a part of the music program.
