NIS showcased mini power plants at Energy Expo

October 13, 2016

Being one of the largest power generation companies in the region, NIS within its Energy Block, has been developing a special programme pertaining to electrical and thermal power production in gas power plants Being one of the largest power generation companies in the region, NIS within its Energy Block, has been developing a special programme pertaining to electrical and thermal power production in gas power plants. These mini power plants are powered by a bad quality gas with a high content of carbon dioxide and nitrogen, which is why it has not been used so far to power any plant. Thus generated thermal energy powers the infrastructure of oil and gas fields, thus boosting the efficiency of company’s operation, while the electricity is either supplied to external consumers or is used for own needs. Thus NIS, along with the Electricity Grid of Serbia (EPS), emerges as Serbia’s sole producer, which supplies electricity in free market. Since 2013, the Company put on stream 13 mini power plants at its oil and gas fields, their total power 11,6 МW, which is sufficient for electricity supply to an average of 10.000 households. NIS cogeneration programme showcased in a presentation made by Igor Korać, deputy director of NIS Energy Block, followed by a panel discussion deliberating energy efficiency NIS cogeneration programme showcased in a presentation made by Igor Korać, deputy director of NIS Energy Block, followed by a panel discussion deliberating energy efficiency and current developments in this field in our country. The panellists included, to mention just a few, representatives of partner companies that participated in the construction of NIS mini power plants, as well as Vladimir Božičković, professor at Mechanical School in the town of Pančevo, who together with his students constructed a wind generator that can cater to the school’s electricity demand. Being a socially responsible company, NIS has recognised the importance of this project and gave support within its programme “Common Cause - Community“. Since 2013, the Company put on stream 13 mini power plants at its oil and gas fields, their total power 11,6 МW, which is sufficient for electricity supply to an average of 10.000 households „We have put into practice the wind generator construction Project thanks to the support of NIS. Within its competition “Common Cause – Community” the Company funded the purchase of a 3D printer, which we used to produce the majority of spare parts required to make the wind generator. This year we also completed project of installing solar panels on the school, also thanks to NIS support“, said professor Vladimir Božičković. A panel discussion participant, Bogdan Pavlović of Teknoxgroup, a company that took part in the construction of eight NIS mini power plants, pointed out NIS as a good example of a company involved in energy efficiency projects, which is the future, and that those companies that use renewable energy sources have better outlook. In his presentation Igor Korać reminded the attendees that the electricity generated by NIS mini power plants is sufficient to supply 10.000 households, as well as the company’s intention to significantly increase the power generation in the period to come.
