The First NIS Compressed Natural Gas Production Plant Starts Operations

August 4, 2014

This is the first NIS facility to have the capacity to prepare and compress natural gas. By the end of 2014, the company will put into operation the Novi Sad facility as well, at which this petroleum product will be sold as motor fuel for passenger vehicles. The total investment in NIS projects in the area of natural gas monetization will reach almost 1.7 million euros by the end of this year. The compressed natural gas production volume at the newly-constructed facility is planned to stand at 330 Sm3 of gas/h. The procedure of compressing natural gas under high pressure and loading it into special vehicles with batteries of cylinders is technically safe owing to tailor-made compressors. The CNG facility was constructed by Gas Tex from Inđija in compliance with all the legal regulations, and mounted near the gas field at the Palić metering and dispatch station.

Whether it is sold as an energy source or a petroleum product used to power engines, compressed natural gas is considered as the fuel of the future because of its environment-friendly features.
Whether it is sold as an energy source or a petroleum product used to power engines, compressed natural gas is considered as the fuel of the future because of its environment-friendly features. Its main ingredient is methane, which has the smallest CO2 emission coefficient value per unit of released energy, as compared against other petroleum products, and as such contributes towards improvement of air quality. It is used as an industry and household heating fuel, as well as an engine fuel for internal combustion engines. “The Palić facility for preparing and selling natural compressed gas is one in a series of NIS projects through which the company promotes sustainable development and environment management policy. By introducing modern technologies into its business operations, the company continuously improves the quality of its products and services, being mindful of increasing energy efficiency,” Velibor Đurić, Project Manager, said in a statement.
