NIS company was given the Certificate of Appreciation by the Aleksinac High School at the ceremony for celebration of 10 years of support and the existence of bilingual Serbian-Russian teaching at this educational institution. Snežana Lakićević, Advisor to Deputy CEO, received the Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of NIS.
The Aleksinac High School is one of the three schools in Serbia where bilingual Russian-Serbian teaching is realized with the support of the NIS company through the “Energy of Knowledge” programme. The support for bilingual teaching in Aleksinac High School is a project aimed at promoting the Russian language and improving and developing the bilingual Serbian-Russian teaching model, which has been implemented for 10 years.
71 students and 13 teachers of the Aleksinac High School and three subject teachers from the Russian Federation are involved in the implementation of the bilingual teaching model in the 2024/2025 school year. In the past 10 years, the bilingual Serbian-Russian class at the Aleksinac High School was attended by more than 200 students.
The funds donated by NIS to the Aleksinac High School are used for the realization of educational activities, the procurement of literature and equipment, the promotion of the bilingual Serbian-Russian teaching and the promotion of the Russian language, as well as the improvement of the language competencies of students and teachers.
Through the “Energy of Knowledge” programme, NIS grants scholarships to domestic students at the universities in Serbia and in the Russian Federation. Two students of the Aleksinac High School, who completed their education according to the bilingual Serbian-Russian teaching model, had the opportunity to have NIS scholarship at the universities in Russia. After successfully completing their studies, they were employed with the company.
As part of the promotion of the Russian language in Serbia, NIS, through the “Energy of Knowledge” programme, supported the implementation of bilingual teaching not only at the Aleksinac High School, but also at the “Jovan Jovanović Zmaj” High School in Novi Sad, as well as at the “Jovan Popović” Primary School in Novi Sad. NIS also supports the participation in the NIS Olympiad in the Russian language, which was included in the official competitions calendar of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia in 2014. So far, NIS has equipped also 23 Russian language classrooms in schools whose students achieved notable results at the NIS Olympiads. The company also supported the development and the publication of a textbook for the beginner’s level of the Russian language “Ni Puha Ni Pera!”, intended for adults and students. For its contribution to the development of education in Serbia, NIS is the first company to which the Ministry of Education awarded the “St. Sava Award”.
