25.05.2023.

The Mathematical Society of Serbia has awarded NIS a plaque for many years of support to young mathematicians and the activities of the Society. NIS was awarded the plaque at a ceremonial academy held in the building of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in Belgrade to mark the 75th anniversary of the Mathematical Society of Serbia. On this occasion, medals were presented to the winners of the Serbian Mathematical Olympiad.

On behalf of NIS, the plaque was received by Mr Nikolay Zalevskiy, Head of the Digital Technology and Innovation Department.
“I would like to thank you on behalf of NIS, and on my own behalf, for this award and the letter of thanks we received today. Through the “Energy of Knowledge” programme, NIS has been supporting the Mathematical Society of Serbia for more than ten years, as well as young talents and scientists of this country. We believe that knowledge and education are our mission to contribute to a better future for Serbia. As an oil company, based on natural sciences such as mathematics, physics, and others, we strive to develop our talents and see this as a long-term investment in knowledge, in innovation, but also in the economy,” Mr Zalevskiy said, wishing the competitors and their professors many more successes and new victories.

Prof Miroslav Marić PhD, President of the Mathematical Society of Serbia, thanked the partners for the support that young mathematicians receive.

“It is clear that all our activities require serious material resources. We would not be able to achieve much without our loyal partners, state institutions, socially responsible companies, and individuals who wholeheartedly support us year after year. On this occasion, I would like to express my deep gratitude to all of you, on behalf of all members of the Society, for contributing to the organization of many competitions, resulting in medals and making the most beautiful friendships from summer and winter schools,” said Mr Marić. Mr Zoran Knežević, an academician and the President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU), addressed the attendees and emphasized the long-standing cooperation with the Mathematical Society of Serbia.

Mr Knežević stated that SANU and the Mathematical Society of Serbia have been nurturing close relations, basically since their founding, and expressed confidence that the Mathematical Society of Serbia will continue its success, and the Academy will always be its well-intentioned and reliable partner.

As part of its “Energy of Knowledge” programme since 2013, NIS has supported the Mathematical Society of Serbia, and through cooperation with the Society, NIS has supported the organization of the Serbian Mathematical Olympiad, as well as the preparation and participation of our representatives in international Olympiads.

In order to popularize natural sciences, as well as to affirm young and talented mathematicians, NIS supports mathematical events and workshops organized by the Mathematical Society of Serbia, such as the recently held “May, Month of Mathematics” event. In addition, NIS also invests in educational infrastructure. With the support of the company, a computer science classroom was opened at the Mathematical Grammar School in Belgrade, which is used for regular classes, as well as for the preparation of students for international competitions.

The plaque for many years of successful cooperation and support to the activities of the Mathematical Society of Serbia was given to, among others, the Ministry of Education of Serbia, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications of Serbia, the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation of Serbia, the Mathematical Grammar School in Belgrade, the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Belgrade, the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of the University of Kragujevac, and others.
