01.07.2024.

Pančevo Oil Refinery, a processing complex of NIS company, has received a new IPPC permit confirming that the production process in the Refinery is compliant with the highest domestic and European standards in the field of environmental protection. The first integrated permit was obtained by Pančevo Oil Refinery in 2017, which made it the first energy plant in Serbia to receive a permit on integrated pollution prevention and control. The new integrated permit also covers the Bottom-of-the-Barrel Complex in the Refinery, which started operating in 2020. This complex is worth more than EUR 300 million, and in addition to the economic effects, it has brought significant environmental benefits such as the cessation of the production of fuel oil with a high sulphur content and a significant reduction in pollutant emissions.

The IPPC permit is the most important document that an operator can obtain, which once again confirms that Pančevo Oil Refinery is among the highest quality European producers and an important factor in ensuring controlled environmental protection conditions.

“At Pančevo Oil Refinery, we are constantly working on modern technologies and environmental protection improvement. Operating in accordance with the best practices in the field of ecology remains our imperative. By obtaining a new, second in a row, IPPC permit, we confirm that sustainable development and social responsibility are our strategic commitment and fundamental practice that we are constantly improving, for the benefit of the community in which we live and work,” said Mr Vladimir Gagić, Director of the Refining Block at NIS.

Pančevo Oil Refinery is one of the most modern and environmentally most advanced refineries in this part of Europe, and more than EUR 800 million have been invested in the modernization of the NIS processing complex since 2009. A significant part of these funds was intended for environmental projects and business projects that significantly improve environmental protection, and in the last 15 years, about EUR 95 million has been invested in the field of environmental protection in Pančevo Oil Refinery.  In addition to being a proof of the justification for investing in environmental projects and improving production processes in order to protect the environment and increase energy efficiency, the IPPC permit is also an obligation for Pančevo Oil Refinery to continue with a responsible management in the implementation of all its activities and significant investments in the field of environmental protection, with the application of the best available techniques and practices.
