Serbian Chess Federation, the host of the first FIDE Chess Olympiad for people with disabilities, awarded the company NIS for its support to the Chess Federation, as well as for the support of this sports event, which is being held in Belgrade until February 5. The award was presented to the NIS Company at the ceremony in the Army Home building in Belgrade, organized on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Serbian chess grandmaster Svetozar Gligorić.
Stefan Despotović, director of the Center for Public Relations, accepted the award on behalf of the company NIS.
“It is no coincidence that NIS Company is the general sponsor of the first Chess Paralympics. The values that our company stands for fully correspond with the values of chess, which are equality and tolerance. In addition, NIS has provided, for many years, the great support to sports in Serbia, both professional sport and the children’s sport activities,” Despotović was quoted as saying.
In addition to the NIS Company, the award was also presented to the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the World Chess Federation (FIDE). The mark that Svetozar Gligorić has left on domestic and the world chess, is best shown by the fact that the award given by FIDE to players for fair play bears his name.
