As part of the campaign “On the Way to Zero – Buckle up”, the Road Traffic Safety Agency and NIS implemented promotional and educational activities with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of using seat belts in passenger vehicles.
All traffic participants who visited the Sokolići 2 GAZPROM petrol station on the Miloš Veliki Motorway today had the opportunity to try out the frontal collision simulator and the vehicle overturning simulator. In this manner, they were able to grasp the importance of using the seat belt, both in the front and in the back seat, presented to them in a fun and safe way and in controlled conditions, in the presence of professional staff and representatives of the Road Traffic Safety Agency. Thanks to “drunk glasses”, the attendees were able to see the extent to which alcohol and psychoactive substances can affect perception and reasoning while driving.
The event was attended by Mirko Koković, Assistant Director of the Road Traffic Safety Agency, Davorin Perišić, Risk Management Manager at NIS, as well as our celebrated auto racing driver and promoter of the “On the Way to Zero – Buckle up” campaign – Dušan Borković.
The representatives of the Agency and NIS emphasized the importance of cooperation between institutions and socially responsible companies, all with the aim of improving the safety of traffic and traffic participants.
“The Road Traffic Safety Agency constantly implements preventive and educational activities with the aim of raising the awareness of traffic participants and informing them about the risks that traffic carries. It is very important to increase the percentage of seat belt use in cars. We highlight that wearing the seat belt is mandatory both in the front and in the back seat. The percentage of use of seat belts by drivers and front seat passengers in the Republic of Serbia is 85%, while in the back seat only every fifth passenger uses the seat belt. This is far from our goal, which is over 95% of drivers and passengers using seat belts. By increasing the use of seat belts, we reduce the consequences of possible traffic accidents. Every year, due to not using the seat belt in traffic, more than 100 human lives are lost. That is why we urge both drivers and passengers to respect traffic regulations and wear seat belts as the best system of passive protection of drivers and passengers inside the vehicle,” said Mirko Koković, Assistant Director of the Road Traffic Safety Agency.
Davorin Perišić from NIS emphasized the importance of cooperation with the Agency in the field of road safety.
“This campaign is another way in which NIS, as a socially responsible company, wants to contribute to the safety of all traffic participants. That is why we are organizing this educational event with our partners from the Road Traffic Safety Agency, which is an appeal to both drivers and passengers to respect traffic regulations, which directly lead to the reduction of the number of traffic accidents. As the largest retail network in Serbia, we have the opportunity to point out the importance and manner of safe traffic behaviour to a large number of citizens. Through interactive and education activities that we have the opportunity to see today, we show the importance of driving without alcohol, as well as the importance of using the seat belt. These are the main messages that we want to send with this campaign,” Perišić said.
The promoter of the “On the Way to Zero – Buckle up” campaign, our celebrated auto racing driver Dušan Borković, emphasized the importance of cooperation of all social factors in order to be safer in traffic.
“Today’s campaign shows how important it is to continuously work on raising awareness of traffic safety. The seat belt is the basic protection of every passenger, regardless of where they sit in the vehicle. I am glad that, together with my long-term partners from NIS and the Road Traffic Safety Agency, I can contribute to this important mission,” said Dušan Borković, the best auto racing driver in Serbia and the Balkans.
